What do I do if I lose my mobile device?
If you lose your mobile device, please contact Social Sciences immediately, x62821 or email exchange@ssc.ucla.edu. Social Sciences can change your password so synchronization will stop immediately. With certain mobile devices, Social Sciences can also remotely wipe the device which will
remove emails, the calendar, and any resources that are synchronized with the Exchange server. They will be removed from the mobile device, not from the server.

What are the requirements for synchronizing my Windows Mobile device with Exchange?
A Windows Mobile 5.0 or above device is needed to synchronize with Exchange. A data plan is also required. Messages sent from Exchange are different then text messages. Please contact your cellular provider for rates and data plans.

How do I setup my device to sychronize with Exchange?
Directions and pictures may differ depending on the mobile device.
1) Click on Start - Programs - ActiveSync.

2) Click on the link that says "set up your device to sync it."

3) For server address type in: exchange.ss.ucla.edu. Check the box that says "This server requires an encrypted..."

4) Type in your username and password. For the domain, type: ss.

5) By default, the exchange server wil synchronize the tasks, contacts, inbox, and calendar. Uncheck any item you do not wish the exchange server to synchronize.

6) Click on the sync button to begin syncing with the exchange server.

7) If there are any problems, please email exchange@ssc.ucla.edu or call the SSC frontdesk at x62821.

What are the requirements for synchronizing my Blackberry device with Exchange?
You must have a data plan for your Blackberry device. Verify with your provider that this data service CAN be used with a Blackberry Enterprise Server. Blackberry Enterprise email service may cost more. Please check with your service provider.
You must purchase a Small Business CAL either through Blackberry or through your service provider. Please make sure you specify a Small Business CAL.
After you have receieved a SBE CAL, please email it to exchange@ssc.ucla.edu and someone will provide you with instructions on how to setup your Blackberry device.

How do I setup my device to sychronize with Exchange?
After you email your CAL to exchange@ssc.ucla.edu, someone will reply back with an activation password.
Each Blackberry device is slightly different for activation.
Click on Options - Advanced Options - Enterprise Activation and type in your email address and the activation password. If all goes well, the Blackberry device will synchronize with the Exchange server.

What are the requirements for synchronizing an iPhone with Exchange?
Both the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G can be synchronized with Exchange. To synchronize with Exchange, a data plan is required. If you do not have a data plan, please contact your service provider.
The original iPhone must be updated to the latest software version to be able to synchronize with Exchange. Version 2.0 is the minimum software version that will work with Exchange. The iPhone 3G is already compatible with Exchange.

How do I setup my iPhone to sychronize with Exchange?
From the iPhone main menu, click on Settings.

From the Settings menu, scroll down and click on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."

Under Accounts, click on "Add Account..."
Click on Microsoft Exchange.

Type in your email address. For username type in "SS\Your_username" without the quotations. Type in your password. The description is optional. Click on Next.

The iPhone will try to authenticate and a new box prompt called "Server" will appear. For the server box type in "exchange.ss.ucla.edu" without the quotations. Click on Next.

You have the option for what you would like syncrhonized. The majority of users will synchronize Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.
That's it. Click on the Menu button and you can now access your mail by clicking on the mail button from the main menu.
Things to note: Only the inbox is set for "push" email. This means that new mail sent to Exchange will be pushed to the inbox on the iPhone. Any rules that deliver mail to other folders will not show up as unread on the iPhone.
If you access another folder, the iPhone must first synchronize with the Exchange server to pull down email messages.

How do I change my signature for outgoing messages sent from my iPhone?
From the iPhone main menu, click on Settings.

From the Settings menu, scroll down and click on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."

Scroll down and click on Signature. You can now edit your signature. When finished, click on "Mail..." in the upper left corner.

How do I setup my iPhone to synchronize more than three days worth of mail?
From the iPhone main menu, click on Settings.

From the Settings menu, scroll down and click on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."

Click on your email account.
Click on the button that says "Mail days to sync."

You may now choose how many days back you would like to synchronize your mailbox.

When I open the Blacberry browser, I am getting a prompt for a username and password. How do I get rid of this?
Instructions may differ between each Blackberry, but should be similar.
Click on the Blackberry button(main) and select Options - Advanced Options - Browser - Default Browser.
Change to Internet Browser.
Choose Configuration/Default MDS browser.
Change to Internet Browser
Make sure to SAVE the changes. Click on Blackberry button and select Save.
Open the Browser and click the Blackberry button and select (Browser)Options.
In the Browser Options, the configuration should be Internet Browser.
Select the option to support javascript.
Browser Identification can be Blackberry, but is not necessary.
Make sure to SAVE the changes. Click on Blackberry button and select Save.
Open the Browser and select General Properties.
Default Browser should be set to Internet Browser.
Make sure to SAVE the changes. Click on Blackberry button and select Save.
