New Login Portal for Wireless Access

During the December 2007 Holiday Break, SSC enhanced the wireless network services by adding a login portal similar to BOL and providing PPTP VPN support.

Previously, users in Public Affairs Building, Haines, Bunche, and Fowler needed to install the Cisco VPN software on computers in order to access the wireless network. This had served us well in the past but sometimes can cause incompatibility issues with various Operating Systems and was somewhat unfriendly to novice users.

With this new service, users can now access the wireless network by using the login portal. Simply open a browser (IE, Firefox or Safari) and the user will be re-directed to a login page where he/she can sign in using his/her BOL ID and password. Note: please enable the browser to accept POP-UP from 128.97.204.1 so that the LOGOUT screen will be displayed.

More information & screen shot of the portal can be found here: http://www.bol.ucla.edu/services/wireless/ In addition to the Login Portal, users can also access the wireless network by using the OS built-in PPTP VPN.

Instruction for this login method can be found here: http://www.bol.ucla.edu/services/vpn/pptp/

Lastly, SSC continues to support the Cisco VPN client software as a method of authenticating to the wireless network.
