Bounced Email Messages Flooding Inbox

Several of our users have reported an issue where their in boxes have been inundated with massive amounts of BOUNCED notifications indicating that their messages were not delivered.  In most instances, the user's email address was spoofed the true owner of the email account receives the 'undeliverable' notifications.

SSC is aware of the situation and have applied server side filters which removes about 50% of these erroneous notifications.  However, some messages continue to pass through.  The best solution is to apply local filters on the local mail client that moves these type of emails to another mailbox.  The users can then review this mailbox to quickly glean if any of the bounced messages are legitimate.  If not, the user can 'SELECT ALL' and delete.  Please make sure to EMPTY TRASH to remove these messages from the server.

For assistance, please email support@ssc.ucla.edu or contact your local department technical analyst.

Thank you.
