Using SSH

Follow these steps to connect to our UNIX servers using either the SSH Secure Shell Client (Telnet) or the SSH Secure File Transfer Client (FTP).

Step 1:
Double-click the shortcut labeled "SSH Secure Shell Client" to start a new Telnet session or the "SSH Secure File Transfer Client" to start a new FTP session.

Step 2:
Select the "Quick Connect" button to connect to Remote Host and enter the following:
  • Host Name: www.sscnet.ucla.edu (or another host name)
  • User Name: your login name
  • Port Number: 22
  • Authentication Method: Password
Click "Connect" after all the settings have been entered.

Step 3:
Enter your password in the text field then click "OK".

Step 4:
Now select the "Profiles" button located next to "Quick Connect". Type in a profile name then click "Add to Profiles".

Step 5:
The current session settings have now been saved. Your profile can be found in the drop down menu under Profiles.
